Dirty Carpets

Your carpet may be hiding some disgusting secrets within it. Bugs, dust, allergens, carpet mites, even old food particles could be trapped inside of the fibers. For those who don’t clean their carpets regularly, this could have a serious impact on the health of your family. It might also give your home a foul odor.

Here a few tips on how to clean your carpet like an expert.

1. Chewing Gum Blue

For those who have kids in the house, having chewing gum stuck to the carpet is inevitable. It is possible to remove it. All you need to do is freeze the gum by placing ice cubes on and around it. This will make the gum turn solid. You’ll want to remove it with a spoon or fork instead of your hands. Otherwise, you might melt the gum and be stuck back at square one. Anything else that sticks to the carpet can simply be cut with scissors.

2. Alcohol Stains

Have you ever spilled a glass of wine or beer on your carpet before? Red wine, especially, can leave a tragic scene behind on your carpet. Luckily, there is a way to remove those stains. Using club soda, you’ll want to wet a cloth with it. Dab the cloth into the stained area. Over time, the soda should remove the stain. Don’t rub it into the stain because this can make the stain spread.

Another way to get rid of alcohol stains is to use one-part vinegar and one-part water. Place the mixture inside of a sprayer and spray the stain. After letting it soak for 15 minutes, you can use a clean sponge to rinse the area. This process may need to be repeated a few times. Finally, wash the area with warm water and comb the carpet, so the strands are pointed in the right direction.

3. Other Stains

Interestingly enough, most other stains can be cleaned with shaving cream. Simply place the shaving cream over the stained area and let it rest for a half-hour. Afterward, you’ll need to use a cloth to slowly dab it away.

Once that’s done, you’ll want to use the vinegar and water solution to spray the area. Then just rinse it by rubbing it away with a cloth.

4. Carpet Cleaning Solutions

Luckily, there is a lot of carpet cleaning solutions that you can pick up at your local store as well. Some may be better suited for certain cleaning tasks. When using the cleaning solution, you’ll also want to have the right kind of equipment. The simplest is a sturdy brush that has a thick handle. You’ll be shampooing and rinsing with that brush.

The more expensive route involves buying a deep-cleaning vacuum that utilizes water to deep-soak your carpet with the solution.

Prepare Wisely

Regularly cleaning your carpet can improve the air quality of your home and remove odors. Dress appropriately and try one of these four methods to clean your carpets like an expert. Also when picking the right carpet cleaner, be sure to look for products that are compatible with your type of carpet. Certain materials are more durable than others, and some solutions can cause problems.
